The Power of Having a Daily Routine

Have a Daily Routine

We discussed self-discipline yesterday, and one of the tips was to form habits. Habits are always difficult to form, but if you instill a daily routine, it becomes easier to be self-disciplined.

daily routine"My daily routine is brush teeth and shower!"

If you don't brush your teeth one morning or night, what happens? Well, in the long run, it doesn't make a difference. If you don't shower one day, what happens? If you happened to sweat, you may end up scaring your friends away because of your stench. But in the long run, nothing happens (except for the stories that people tell at parties about that one time you smelled like... well, you know).

But let's say you have a daily routine. For example, my daily routine is blogging, advertising, reading/listening, and goal-setting stuff. I'm talking about marketing daily routines, not general hygiene.

What needs to happen in order to instill good habits is that there needs to be a sense of urgency when it comes to the daily routine. The urgency when it comes to hygiene is... well, smelling like a zombie. The urgency when it comes to marketing doesn't seem to be there for many people. After all, many people are merely "getting by" because of their day job. But many other marketers, like Ray Higdon, needed the extra income because he was in friggin' foreclosure. He knew that if he didn't follow his daily routine, he'd go under, and it'd be terrible for him.

While it's difficult to develop that sense of urgency, it isn't difficult to essentially brainwash yourself into thinking--no, knowing, that you deserve better.

How do you do that? Well, write your affirmations! Or afformations. I do both, just in case. My ten main life goals are on a bulletin board on top of my computer. And I'm trying to implement the practice of writing my aff(i)(o)rmations into my daily routine.

In addition, you may also wish to write, "I deserve to..." and then your goal. Repetition is the mother of skill. And brainwashing. With enough repetition, you will believe it, you will know it, and you will take action towards that sense of urgency. Knowing that your future is at stake.

Implement the mantra into your daily routine, and then eventually you will believe it so much, that you will feel dirty for skipping on your business daily routine.

Onto you: Any other tips on how to implement a good daily routine and stick to it?
